Biographical history

The theatre was opened in 1906 as the Angus Theatre, located on MacDonald Street, and owned and operated by R.M. Angus. By 1930 R.G. Grant was the owner. Due to the advent of sound in the movies, Mr. Grant changed the name to the Audien. The Audien theatre was also used for live theatre and community activities. In 1936, Mr. Grant sold the theatre to Matt Park of Calgary. Mr. Park installed new sound and projection equipment, a new screen, and new seats. The building was demolished in 1986.

Custodial history

Gift of Mr. Doug Hutchinson, 1986. Mr. Hutchinson is a long-time resident of Wetaskiwin but his relationship to the Audien Theatre is unknown.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of a collection of glass slides used at the Audien Theatre to show local business ads during movie presentations (ca.1930- ca.1986).
