Biographical history

John Francis Atterton, 1875-1966, was born in Grantham, Nottinghamshire, England. He married Ellen Field, ?-1948, in 1900 and they had three children, Clement Le Roy, 1903-1985, Frank Edward, 1905-1988, and Ivie, 1907-?. They emigrated to Raymond, Alberta ca. 1912, and then to Cardston. John bought Arthur T. Henson's photography studio which had previously been owned by J.T. Scott, and opened Atterton Studio in 1916. Most of John's photos were taken in the Cardston area including the Blood reserve. He was involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and retired in 1958. In the 1930s and 1940s Frank ran the Raymond Photo Studio in Raymond, and in the late 1940s the Cardston Studio's name was J.F. Atterton and Son.
