Biographical history

The Association France-Canada was founded in 1950 as the Accueil Franco-Canadien, to match people from France with people from Canada, and to provide assistance to immigrants from France. In 1964, a student exchange program was introduced between Canada and France. Under a new name, the Association Culturelle France-Canada, a federal charter was obtained in 1981. The Alberta section of the Association, the Association France-Canada de l'Alberta, was established in the early 1970s to promote various cultural and social activities, such as exchange programs. Presidents of the Association France-Canada de l'Alberta included Fathers Mercure, O.M.I., and Jean Fortier, O.M.I., and Gaëten Tessier. After some inactivity, the Association relanced in November 1989, with Gérard Lizaire as president of the Council Board, but it ceased to exist shortly after.
