Biographical history

Annie Siddal, 1881-1972, was born and educated in Oxford, Nova Scotia. She taught school in Nova Scotia for three years before accepting a teaching job in 1903 at the Mound Lake School, located 36 miles east of Red Deer, N.W.T. In 1904 she married Fred W. Gaetz, and they had four children, Juanite Gertrude (Morigeau), Fay Evangeline (Slessor), Evelyn Audrey (King), and Maurice Frederick. Under the name Annie L. Gaetz, she wrote for various Canadian periodicals and was the author of three books on the history of the Red Deer, Alberta district: The Park Country; Trails of Yesterday; and Footprints. She was an active member of the United Church and was a supporter of temperance and feminist causes. Annie L. Gaetz Elementary School was named in her honour.
