Biographical history

Miss Annie Patterson (1885-1979) was born in Hemel Hempstead, England, and came to Canada with her family in 1909. Miss Patterson was trained as a teacher in England and shortly after arriving in Canada, obtained a position at the Prairie Rose School near Leslieville, Alberta. Three years later she moved to Red Deer to teach. In 1915 she married Frank Holt. Shortly thereafter, Frank Holt went overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, soon followed by Annie. In 1918 Frank was killed in action. After the war, Annie Holt moved back to Red Deer where she taught at the Central School until her retirement in 1939.
