Biographical history

Amby Patrick Lenon was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1911. He traveled to Edmonton, Alberta in 1912 with his family and his father worked on the High Level Bridge. Shortly after the family moved to Calgary, Alberta and in 1926 Lenon completed a six-month business course. While waiting to be bonded after completing his business course, Lenon took a temporary position in a flower shop where he remained until 1928 when he returned to Edmonton to work for pioneer florist Walter Ramsay. Lenon then traveled around western Canada working in various florist businesses before returning to Edmonton and opening his own store, Amby Lenon Limited, at 10349 Jasper Avenue in 1937. In 1945 his brother in law, Jack McKenzie, came to help build and become general manager, later vice president, of the greenhouse at 10603 67th Avenue. A second store was established in 1956 on 106th street and 67th Avenue and a few years later the greenhouse was increased in size to over 30,000 square feet. Lenon retired in 1972.
