Biographical history
Alma Taft was born in 1920 and married Percy Smith in Saskatoon in 1942. Alma and Percy had three children: Valerie, Rhonda, and Kevin. Taft held various positions in the entertainment, broadcast, and publishing industries in the 1950s through the 1970s. These positions include dresser at the Stratford Festival, host of the first women's television show in Saskatchewan (Here Comes Alma) and a teen show (Teens on TV), and as a writer for Chatelaine and Star Weekly. Taft lived in Saskatoon until 1962 when she relocated to Edmonton to open a television studio at Victoria High School with Donald Primm. During this time, she also entered the Education Program at the University of Alberta, becoming its first graduate. Taft then worked as a teacher in Victoria High School's television arts program and as a producer and actor for CBC. In 1974, Taft remarried and moved to British Columbia to teach in Richmond. Alma Taft died in 2006.
Custodial history
Two of Taft's daughters, Valerie Warke and Rhonda Taft, donated these audio reels together with other artifacts to the Royal Alberta Museum in 2006. The museum kept the artifacts and transferred the audio reels to the PAA in 2009.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of recorded interviews conducted by Alma Taft on various topics, including medical research, employment, falconry, and student activism.
