Biographical history

Alfred Goodwin, 1876-1955, was born in Cheapside, Ontario. In 1897 he moved to Manitoba before settling in Calgary, Alberta in 1900. Between 1904 and 1933 he worked in the house-moving business, and operated his own company. His son, George Herbert, 1906-1960, continued to run the moving business after Alfred retired. Alfred's wife, Amy Ida Jane Goodwin, ?-1950, was born in Perth Ontario and came to Calgary in 1904. Alfred collected native artifacts.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of accounts, receipts, agreements, and business cards related to the moving business; Alfred's diaries (1909-1927) and Amy's diary (1909); personal correspondence; scrapbooks related to building-moving and native peoples; lists of Alfred's native artifacts collection; newsclippings and miscellany. Includes photographs of native personalities and views of moving.
