Biographical history
Alex Lafferty was born January 18, 1893 in Fort Nelson, B.C. After his father's death his mother married widower Georges Shank of Athabasca Landing. Alex worked on the riverboats with his brother, Frank. In 1913 Frank married Beatrice Lepine; Alex lived with them. They lived in Calling Lake, Athabasca, Hay River, NWT; and Edmonton.

The fonds consists of an interview in which the following information is mentioned: Magnus Cromarty Brown, Captain Edward Benjamin Haight (1862- ), John MacLeod, Clementine Mercredi, Captain James William Mills (1859-1933), Georges Shank, John Shott, Captain Van Dusen, Charles Joseph Rayner Whiteley (1889-1978), a boiler pulled by horses, ferry, freighting, Grand Rapids railway, houses on the river flats, and tracking.
