Biographical history

The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.), originally only a federal political party, was founded in 1932. The Alberta Section of the C.C.F. was formed in 1942 when the Alberta Labour Party amalgamated with local C.C.F. clubs. The party was active in the Red Deer provincial and federal constituencies at least as early as 1947. In 1961 the federal New Democratic Party was formed, and the following year the Alberta Section of the C.C.F. was reorganized as the Alberta New Democratic Party. In 1987 it was renamed Alberta New Democrats

Custodial history

The fonds had been in the custody of Kendall Dunford, former provincial candidate and former president of the Red Deer Constituency of the Alberta New Democratic Party

Scope and content

The fonds consists of a minute book that was used to record meetings of the provincial and federal Red Deer Constituency organizations (1949-1963), correspondence, news clippings, policy statements, internal party circulars, and campaign materials, particularly of the provincial candidates Ethel Taylor and Kendall Dunford
