Strong, Albert

Albert Strong was born in Denmark in May, 1857. At age 13 he immigrated to the United States where he worked on cattle and horse ranches and was a government scout for wagon trains. He moved from Kansas to Canada in 1910 with his wife, Mary. Mary was born in 1872 and married Albert in 1898. They first settled near Hanna and then moved to Colinton. In 1920 they moved to the South Athabasca area and farmed SW25-65-23-W4. They had no family. Mary was a member of the Red Cross and the Anglican Church Women's Auxiliary. She died in 1946 and Albert lived in the St. Vincent de Paul home in Athabasca until his death on Oct.30, 1957. They are buried in St.Alban's Cemetery.

Truman, Arlene Grace

Arlene Grace Truman was raised in Ponoka, Alberta. She graduated in Education from the University of Alberta. In the spring of 1942 she taught at Rodger's Chapter School #3159 east of Athabasca, Alberta. The next year she taught at Dakota School in the County of Ponoka. She married Mr. Nielsen in 1944 and they raised a family of eight children.

Aspen Regional Health Authority #11

In 1994, the Government of Alberta introduced a policy of regionalization of health care in the province by creating regional health authorities. The Aspen Regional Health Authority #11 serves a population of approximately 81,000 people and encompasses an area of approximately 36,000 sq. km from the immediate north of the City of Edmonton north to Calling Lake and as far east and west as Fox Creek and the Village of Boyle. Aspen is serviced by 8 acute care facilities, 7 long-term care facilities, and 13 Community Care and Population Health offices.

In January 1975, a home program co-ordinator was employed under the Priority Employment Program to identify special parent-child needs, develop and deliver a home-study program, and determine its usefulness for rural members of the community.

Athabasca Archives Treaty 8 Commission collection

Treaty 8 was the last and largest of the nineteenth century land agreements made between First Nations and the Government of Canada. Signed June 21, 1899, the treaty encompasses 841,491 sq. km that stretch across northern Alberta to take in parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon.

Athabasca Concert Party

The Athabasca Concert Party was organized in the fall of 1954 to present entertainments and dramas. All funds raised were used to finish the Community Centre. The group later joined with the Athabasca Art Club to form the Athabasca Allied Arts Council.
